Big Agnes Matress Pad
On average of about 24 breaths of air (or maybe I just have a lot of hot air!) and this wonderful, lightweight, small packed pad is filled and ready to go. I swear by this matress pad.

Jenn's right about Big Agnes Air Core!
I've got 2 of them! One for loaded touring and one sent ahead for OKFW. After I arrive in Frederick, I have 2 - I hold them together side-by-side with Velcro and enjoy wall-to-wall cushy comfort. And since I have no hot air, I use a lightweight plastic hand pump to avoid heavy breathing (I made a valve adapter from a plastic funnel). Jenn has the mummy-shaped version and I have the rectangular ones. The only reason I don't carry both air mattresses for loaded touring is to save a little weight. They don't weigh very much and when deflated fold to a very compact package. These are MUCH better than the thin, bulky self-inflating mattresses. They are actually very durable urethane air mattresses with a nylon fabric coating. You can save a few ounces by getting the clear uncoated ones, and they also make ones with insulation for cold weather camping.

the insulated kind also helps in the summer.... it keeps the heat from the ground off of you.
I have the insulated mummy.
